I have recently accepted God into my life but haven’t yet put a label to Christian or Catholic. I’ve attended mass only a couple of times, by myself, but grew up not religious and get very confused. If anyone is able to explain some simple traditions in church: Are there specific times we cross ourselves? When do we know to stand or kneel, to fit in with everyone else? Is bowing or kneeling a must whenever we enter? When the priest is reading verses, how do we know when to recite, and we need to hold our palms to the sky? If I have tattoos, do I need to have them all covered? Sorry if these seem very miniscule or specific. I’m sure I have more questions, and I know being with a religion and God is more than just some common traditions in church, but I do want to fit in and not disrespect anyone. As I said, I never grew up religious, I am 22 years old and have started going to mass alone so unfortunately I get very confused and carried away with the little things. Hopefully these start to make sense soon and mass will become regular for me but any answers are appreciated, thank you.

Hi there not name is Craig I didn't start as Catholic but being very long time now I think the etiquette is important and porticals for the Catholic Church I am going now they mostly don't follow that of the holy water I do prepare myself for the mass even on the way out. Your supposed to do prayers after the mass as well like before the mass bit people hardly do that

This is awesome and needs to be seen in all platforms. Holy reverance has been forgotten by many. Sad to see women and men wearing shorts at Mass. Even if you are on vacation or just visiting. Dressing appropriate should always be done. Just bring your shorts to change into after Mass outside church.

I was there from 1978 to 1984. Bullied. One teacher was a great uncle: he proved worthless at the time and the same when I later became a carer. John Briggs, Woodwork. No fond memories of him or the school.

what is there for me to look forward to in life? Out of touch elderly politicians do nothing to stop climate change, while they ignore the needs of my generation. It is hopeless. Even if i land a dream job with all of the bells and whistles, I will likely never own a home and I will likely never retire. My country's healthcare system spits in the face of its people whilst draining our pockets at every turn. There is nothing I can do on an individual basis regarding pollution and the likelihood that the human race will kill itself within the next 100 years because of corporate greed. I have tried to kill myself multiple times and failed. All it does is leave me with scars and ugly reminders of constant misery and trauma. I am just tired of existing. All I do is college-work to land a job that will likely never pay me enough, never give me anything i want in life and never bring joy to me. Things i once loved to do offer nothing for me but a mundane dopamine hit that lasts a maximum of five minutes. I have no real friends, and even when I try to make them i end up pushing them away because I just dont trust them. It is pointless for me to continue existing like this. I just want it all to stop and assisted suicide would be the best route for me. You infuriate me. It is insane to me that simply having access an opt out button for this world is looked at as repulsive to society. I didnt ask to be born, i should be able to choose to die. Fuck you

Call me crazy, but when visiting Iona, 9 years ago, with my dog, completely by accident, as I was hiking in the area, St Columba did something amazing that stroke me. He started by using my dog who suddenly acted strangely when we were on our way to the ferry as she refused to go on but wanted me to go back to the abbey, and pulled me back toward it, to the point I had to promise her we would return the day after... And the day after St Columba was waiting for me with a tiny miracle and a very nice and deep lesson about faith. That was spectacular as I was very far from Church at that time, and when visiting Iona, thought Saint Colomba was some kind of nice medieval mythical legendary fary tale. I am French and thought I didn't know anything about St Colomba at all. When back in Paris, I actually realized that I knew the island competition story as my sister's godfather's wife was a O'Neill, but I was not aware that his ancestor was a saint, and even less this very saint who I thought was some kind of legendary fary tale until he spectacularly showed up in my life using my dog for that... Last June 9th he acted again in my life. I didn't realize it until the evening a friend texted me from nowhere "today is the feast of St Columba". 😉 Sadly now that my wonderful dog is dying. I pray St Columba either for a miracle, either for her to pass quietly and to go to Heaven where she obviously belongs.

I am non catholic, but regularly attending mass. What if you have a right knee only disability; currently scheduled for surgery? Should you genuflect on left or knee do a profound bow towards tabernacle with SOC? I feel really awkward on both. Because I know right is right and profound bow is used for altar when the Eucharist is not present. If I’m not mistaken.
